I have Net-a-Porter taste on a Macy’s budget.
I wish I could afford all the beautiful clothes I want, but I live in one of the most expensive parts of the United States, and frankly, don’t have that kind of disposable income.
Enter: Rent the Runway
With a subscription, I can select eight pieces per month and return them after I wear them. I love that I can change it up based on my schedule. If I have a work trip to Washington, DC, I can select fun blazers or knee-length dresses. For beach vacations, I stuff my bag with maxi dresses in fun prints. For every day, I choose Zoom-appropriate blouses or sweaters.
Because these are rentals, I’m more likely to experiment with styles or patterns. After all, if it doesn’t work, I can return it. Taking a fashion risk, well, doesn’t feel terribly risky. Plus, choosing the clothes scratches the itch of shopping without accumulating stuff that I’ll inevitably only wear a couple of times.
Want to try it out? You can use this referral code to get 30% off your first month. Full disclosure: I get an extra spot in my subscription if you decide to join.
Others swear by a competing service, Nuuly, which you are interested in learning more.
Have you tried one of these services? What did you think?
What I’m Reading
Clare Gilmore’s Love Interest was one of the best workplace rom-coms I've ever read. I loved her depiction of your early twenties when you are climbing your way to the top and the choices you make to get there.
Casey is a numbers girl. She's a wiz at financials but prefers to be in the background and let others step into the spotlight. After Alex swoops in to take a promised promotion, she's ready to hate him. After all, his last name is the same as the board chairman. The nepotism stinks. But when they start collaborating on a major launch, Casey realizes that Alex is so much more than his parentage. Slowly but surely they fall for each other. But will a corporate scandal ground their relationship before it can take flight?
Enter improv classes. She takes them on the advice of her boss but learns so much more about applying the philosophy of "yes, and" to her life. When her husband Tobin offers to be her partner for improv exercises as they try to work through their issues, the story becomes heart-wrenching and hilarious. (I am still chuckling over the mermaid scene!)
It isn't easy to pull off the marriage-in-trouble trope, but Maggie made it look effortless. Her voice was sparkling, and I can't wait to gobble up her future books. It releases on June 25, 2024.
What I’m Eating
Have you made Martha Stewart’s famous one-pan pasta recipe? It seems like it shouldn’t work, but it’s delicious and just about the easiest thing to make. Enjoy!
I was just thinking about rent the runway for a wedding but hadn't looked up how it works. Had no idea it was a subscription! Thought it was a per price situation. Checking it out now, just in time for ThrillerFest so thanks!!!
Ahhhh thanks for the shout-out!!! Big overenthusiastic poorly timed hugs
